Summary

A sweet and funny debut novel about falling for someone when you least expect it 。 。 。 and finding out that real life romance is better than anything on screen。

Emma is a die-hard romantic。 She loves a meet-cute Netflix movie, her pet, Lady Catulet, and dreaming up the Gay Rom Com of her heart for the film festival competition she and her friends are entering。 If only they’d listen to her ideas。 。 。

Sophia is pragmatic。 She’s big into boycotts, namely 1) relationships, 2) teen boys and their BO (reason #2347683 she’s a lesbian), and 3) Emma’s nauseating ideas。 Forget starry-eyed romance, Sophia knows what will win: an artistic film with a message。

Cue the drama。 The movie is doomed before they even start shooting 。 。 。 until a real-life plot twist unfolds behind the camera when Emma and Sophia start seeing each other through a different lens。 Suddenly their rivalry is starting to feel like an actual rom-com。

i loved the idea of this book, but the execution was very poorly written。 a lot of the subplots didn’t make much sense and the relationships between the characters felt very unrealistic。 i even found myself skimming through the “cute” scenes bc i just didn’t care。 i am usually a sucker for found family / friend groups in books but i just feel like the characters weren’t fleshed out enough and they felt very different towards the end and not in a character development way, but in the sense that t i loved the idea of this book, but the execution was very poorly written。 a lot of the subplots didn’t make much sense and the relationships between the characters felt very unrealistic。 i even found myself skimming through the “cute” scenes bc i just didn’t care。 i am usually a sucker for found family / friend groups in books but i just feel like the characters weren’t fleshed out enough and they felt very different towards the end and not in a character development way, but in the sense that the characters that were set to be super important to the mc felt very distant in the last half of the book ~> (MYRAH SUPREMACY) also Sophia was so annoying the the first half, like i understand she was going thru stuff but i couldn’t stand her, when she kept talking about Paris LMAO (however i feel like bisexual rep in this book is done very well and the conversations between Sophia and Emma about coming out will resonate with a lot of ppl。) 。。。more

I picked this up because the cover is beautiful and I am always on the hunt for wonderful Sapphic books! Fortunately, I have read many many amazing YA books in the last year, and unfortunately, that fact makes this one seem a little underdeveloped。 I just wasn't very attached to the characters, I found them to be pretty one-dimensional, and I wasn't very interested in the plot。 I think a younger version of me would have really liked this book, and I can genuinely imagine many of my students enjo I picked this up because the cover is beautiful and I am always on the hunt for wonderful Sapphic books! I needed a good lighthearted palette cleanser type of book so this was good for that。 The writing and plot felt a bit younger tbh。 This book wasn't bad by any means but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to someone。 I needed a good lighthearted palette cleanser type of book so this was good for that。 The writing and plot felt a bit younger tbh。 This book wasn't bad by any means but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to someone。 。。。more

This book is definitely mediocre at best but it's not a bad thing。 The plot was all over the place but the cute moments between Sophia and Emma balanced it out。 The author lost the main objective of it being a WLW love story。 Literally, most of the book was about getting Tom and Kate together and by the time we got to figure out how Sophia and Emma were going to turn out, THERE WAS A PAGE AND A HALF LEFT。 They could've given us another chapter。 I needed more closure than that。 Honestly, I did no This book is definitely mediocre at best but it's not a bad thing。 The plot was all over the place but the cute moments between Sophia and Emma balanced it out。 The author lost the main objective of it being a WLW love story。 Literally, most of the book was about getting Tom and Kate together and by the time we got to figure out how Sophia and Emma were going to turn out, THERE WAS A PAGE AND A HALF LEFT。 They could've given us another chapter。 I needed more closure than that。 Honestly, I did not think that they had chemistry。 They went from disliking each other to liking each other in the span of 1 pov chapter for each person (2 chapters)。 AND THEY WERE SIDE CHARACTERS IN THEIR OWN STORY。 I respect the flow of the book but it definitely needed to be longer because everything felt so rushed。I was so close to DNF this book so many times because it was SO BORINGGG。 I saw no point in reading it。 I'm glad i continued because it had some cute moments and interesting tea in the last 100 pages but it was not worth it。 I think i wouldve enjoyed it more when I was younger。 It did have some funny parts and cute moments between Sophia and Emma so for that I give it 3 stars。 And its barely making that。 。。。more

okay listen,i didn't HATE this book, but i also didn't LOVE it。the characters were so annoying and there was literally more screen time about Kate and Toms relationship as well as Myras and Peter's relation than Emma nd Sophia's。 all the characters were like I said annoying and the only person I could tolerate just a little was Sophia。AND THEY NEVER EVEN WON THE THINGY BRO。I changed my mind i kinda hate this book。 okay listen,i didn't HATE this book, but i also didn't LOVE it。the characters were so annoying and there was literally more screen time about Kate and Toms relationship as well as Myras and Peter's relation than Emma nd Sophia's。 all the characters were like I said annoying and the only person I could tolerate just a little was Sophia。AND THEY NEVER EVEN WON THE THINGY BRO。I changed my mind i kinda hate this book。 。。。more

let's do this; 1/5 stars - almost dnf'd this tbhI did not like a single character in this, their drama seemed petty and unnecessary, the romance seemed forced, there was no chemistry between any of them and, honestly, I did not care about anything they were doing。I love plotless romance but this read like a plotless romance that was trying too hard to have a plot。I do believe that the general idea of this is brilliant and I think with a bit more character development this would have been more en let's do this; 1/5 stars - almost dnf'd this tbhI did not like a single character in this, their drama seemed petty and unnecessary, the romance seemed forced, there was no chemistry between any of them and, honestly, I did not care about anything they were doing。I love plotless romance but this read like a plotless romance that was trying too hard to have a plot。I do believe that the general idea of this is brilliant and I think with a bit more character development this would have been more enjoyable, because this is a story you read for the characters and if they are unlikeable, what else really is there? 。。。more

This was so boring。 The characters were really flat, like really, really flat。 They each had one characteristic each, and everything about them was that characteristic。 Also, both mcs were super boring and annoying。 There was no good reason that they were enemies。 It was just contrived for the trope and didn't make sense at all。 It felt so forced。 Finally, they didn't even have good chemistry! I never found myself rooting for them, they just didn't seem like they were good together。Finally, they This was so boring。 The characters were really flat, like really, really flat。 They each had one characteristic each, and everything about them was that characteristic。 Also, both mcs were super boring and annoying。 There was no good reason that they were enemies。 It was just contrived for the trope and didn't make sense at all。 It felt so forced。 Finally, they didn't even have good chemistry! In the third act breakup when Emma thought that Sophia never loved her, and Sophia was trying to get her to understand that, everything could've been resolved in about 5 minutes if they talked。 Plus no one kisses someone that they think is in love with them but that they don't love back。 I know characters don't always have to be geniuses but really? You guys kissed。 I think she likes you in some way。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 It was a cute story with great characters and little surprises I didn‘t see coming。Personally, I thought a few things were annoying but they‘re teens and we all were annoying at times so for me it doesn‘t take anything away from a great book! It‘s so important that Emma found her pride and I think it‘s also very important how often she mentions that she‘s bi, no matter who she ends up dating, this is who she is and I love that!

It's cute。 Emma and Sophie are actually really damn cute。 I do have my problems with the writing and some minor grieviances with parts of the plot but it genuinely melts away when there's two blushing teenagers, shy and stuttering on my page。 Like how am I supposed to be objective。 But, I will try。 !) I started off the book not liking either heroine。 And I think that a good enough job was done with making the girls make more sense as the book progressed。 We were able to understand their motivations and quirks more。 Which I really needed, cause I spent the first 20% getting annoyed at everything each of them said。2) The transition from enemies to lovers is。。。weird。 It wasn't even a matter of too fast or too slow for me。。。it was just written weird。 I understand being confused on where you stand with someone you consider your "enemy" but the whiplash between "I hate you" and "You're cute" was not appreciated。 Which I do find odd itself, because that sounds right up my alley。 3) This is definitely below my age and it's so painfully obvious with how often the repetition of their motivations and thoughts are。 It will be said once, and very poorly reworded about twice more within the next 3 paragraphs。 Like, babes。。。I get it。 She's conflicted。 I don't need to hear it five times。4) It was definitely dramatic at times。 Not like an actual teenager dramatic, but this is a 'dramatised scene for reality TV' dramatic。 Took some getting used to but I didn't hate it。 Otherwise, how the story progresses is quite realistic, and I appreciated that。 5) It's weird how the book often reiterates how even though one of the mcs is bi and there are many het love stories in media, and she could easily indulge in those, she would still love to see herself properly represented with light-hearted happy endings and wlw and all that cute shit。 Yet, the book (does not even try and therefore automatically) fails to represent anyone outside of the white sapphic and white het demographic。 (Kate is implied to be plus size in the beginning of the book but it is literally never mentioned again and has no weight in the story。) I'm used to that shit tho。 Overall, I'm giving it four stars because I think Emma and Sophia are cute。 No one is gonna force me to be strictly objective when it comes to sapphic media。 。。。more

🎧 2。5。 A light easy read for Pride。 This one wasn’t anything spectacular in the way of great romances。 It kept my interest and the love story was sweet and heartwarming。 Filled with well developed characters, some classic tropes, miscommunications and some good lgbtqia2s+ representation。This one wouldn’t shoot to the top of my recommendation list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t a good book。

I really liked the idea of this book more than the reality i’m afraid。 A cutesy romance between two gay characters who initially hate each other but fall in love eventually。 Both of the protagonists I unfortunately found quite irritating (e。g。 almost every thing about Emma, and Sophie’s snobbish insistence that Paris is the best place on Earth)。 Their romance did have some cute moments in it, but I felt that the multitude of character flaws they both have made it hard for me to get behind them a I really liked the idea of this book more than the reality i’m afraid。 A cutesy romance between two gay characters who initially hate each other but fall in love eventually。 Both of the protagonists I unfortunately found quite irritating (e。g。 almost every thing about Emma, and Sophie’s snobbish insistence that Paris is the best place on Earth)。 Their romance did have some cute moments in it, but I felt that the multitude of character flaws they both have made it hard for me to get behind them and really cheer them on。 My main complaint about this book though it’s thatI wish that there had been more gay people in this book!!! While this is normally not an issue if the main sapphic couple is strong, a large amount of the plot is concerned with Kate and Toms relationship (as well as Myraih’s men issues)。 While I do like Kates character in particular, it’s frustrating that the author dedicated so much time to hetero love and issues。 It’s so common to have multiple queer persons in a teenage friend group and I wish the author had leaned into that more and diversified the identities on show。 Overall, it was not a bad book by any means, but I feel the plot and the characters could have used some fine tuning to make the reader really fall in love with the story。 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 。。。more

I wanted to like this so much because the premise sounded great, but just about every single character is the absolute worst, and it just ended up being painful to read。
